Jakt

Working together

Finally it was holiday in Holland, I was able to go to Sweden and this year we would bring some friends. We brought this friends because their dog was planned to mate with our Baike and we did not know exactly when she should become in heat. So just to be sure we brought Aike and there owners to Sweden.

On Monday we arrived on the Stabijspecial in Sälen, for me it is still strange to see ‘my’ dogs in Sweden. They look and bark the same as in Holland and it makes me feel like home.

During the week we enjoyed the nature and we did some training, I am very proud of how many people are working with there dogs. I really wish that we had the same amount of people working with their dogs in Holland.

On Tuesday the club asked me to speak a little about our breeding rules.

I started with the goal of our club, because everything we do within our club has to be judged by our goal.

Our goal is :

The purpose of the NVSW is to unite the owners/lovers of this Frisian dog, and to promote and maintain the breeding of the Stabyhoun and Wetterhoun. The NVSW is committed to ensure and, where possible, improve the quality of both breeds.

I explained how our organisation works and what the rules for breeding are. With this presentation I showed that our rules really give good results.

We also talked about the purpose of our litter-visits, the breeders day (fokkersdag) and the inventory. What we do with all the information and data that our club collects. The breeders commission uses all this information for making good combinations. So we have to join as clubs and make sure we cooperate as good and as much as possible.

In May this year we already started this cooperation by putting the breeding commissions from Sweden and Holland together.

I really hope this was the start of a good cooperation and within a couple of years all the Swedish Stabij’s must be inventoried before breeding.

Even though my English is not so good, I hope that everybody have understand that for the surviving of our total breed we must work together as clubs and we have to collect as much as possible information about our breeds.

On Wednesday we did some water training and again I was surprised about the Swedish people. It was maybe 10 degrees above zero but they went in to the water to help their dogs. I put it on video, because if I tell that to people in Holland they will never believe it.

Thursday was for me an important day I should join the hunting test and because I wanted to join the fieldwork this year I must succeed. Because of that I was very nervous but my dog did not noticed it, and we did succeed.

On Friday there was the first breeder’s day (fokkersdag) of the Stabij in Sweden. It was a good start for the future of our Stabij. Of course we can change some thinks but for the first breeders day I think it was a success. Hopefully everybody understand why it is so important for our breed. Next year I hope the litters are more complete and both parents are there so the judge can make a better judgment.

On Saturday it was the main event “the show” and like each year it was a success. This year there was a Dutch competitor because our friend did join the show with Aika. The Dutch judge Mr. Andringa did a good job and he was happy with the quality of the Stabij. In Sweden there are the same problems as in Holland if we look to the exterior. There are lots of dogs with a sometimes too happy tale and some with too heavy heads. That means that just like in Holland you have to look very good at your breeding. Also because of that it is good that the breeding advice commission of Sweden and Holland work together. Everybody can understand that you have to be carefully with inbreed so you will not get to much of the same, especially because the population in Sweden is so small.

It was a nice show and the weather was perfect I think it was a very nice end of a busy week.

On Sunday the park looked a bit like a ghost town it was quite and our own dogs were the only black and white left. We look back at a wonderful week and I hope I will be there next year.

Thanks for everything,

Klaas Zonnebeld

Jaktanknytning – Stabyspecialen 2009
